Past meetings

January 2nd 2009 - Annual General Meeting.

By it's very nature this is never one of the most riveting evenings of the year but active groups such as ours don't run themselves and business has to be taken care of!

Current members of the committee were all prepared to continue in their posts and were all re-elected unopposed.

Full minutes will be circulated to all members.

We also had the opportunity to see the new books and DVDs that have been purchased for our library using part of the award we have recently received from Awards for All Wales

The program for 2009 was distributed (details here) , from this you can see that we are in for another action-packed year so don't miss a single meeting!

February 6th 2009 : Frances Baines - In Darwin's footsteps
A visit to the Galapagos Islands.

This, for those who could make it, was a really interesting evening. Sadly though, this was right in the thick of the snow that almost sent us back to the ice age. This was the day that the Severn Bridge was dropping half ton blocks of ice on the passing motorist, this was .... OK, you get the picture.

Understandably, this meeting was not well attended. This is a shame because Frances always puts a lot of work into her talks and we all learn a lot from them. Hopefully Frances will have the opportunity to reprise this talk some time in the future.

Perhaps when there's a heatwave.

March 6th 2009 : 'Bring Something Exotic' night

This is a perennial favourite and there are always some surprises. If you think you can surprise us further why not join us on our next one which is on 7th August.

April 3rd 2009 : Dave Davies - Bonaire, beneath Caribbean seas

Bonaire, if you're not familiar with it, is a small island in the Dutch Antilles just off the coast of Venezuela. Dave, apart from being a specialist snake breeder is also a keen scuba diver. This evening he gave us all a taste of the variety of spectacular wildlife that lives just a few metres below the surface of the Caribbean that not many people get to see.

May 1st 2009 : Open Meeting - All welcome - JungleTalk with Seb Miller

This was a follow-up to our visit to Morrison's in Neath. We were delighted to see so many first time visitors at our meeting, several of whom have expressed an interest in becoming members. The more the merrier!

June 5th 2009 : Andy Highfield - The Tortoise Trust

This evening was very well attended and Andy gave us an in-depth account of his work together with a lot of useful advice on how to keep tortoises fit and healthy.

We are also grateful to Andy for donation one of his books, co-authored by his wife Nadine, duly signed by the authors. This was added to our ever-expanding library.

You can find out more about the Tortoise Trust at www.tortoisetrust.org

Andy and Nadine Highfield and friend.

July 3rd 2009 : Jane Drinkwater - North Wales Reptile and Raptor Sanctuary

Jane gave us us an interesting insight into the work of the sanctuary in Ruthin which she co-founded twelve years ago.

You can find out more at www.nwrr.co.uk.
